Lower Keys and Key West Redfish Fishing Charters
The Lower Keys and Key West has a spectacular redfish fishery, which few know about and are therefore lightly pressured.
They’re a blast to catch on light tackle and quick to pounce on a live shrimp, lure or fly – we simply love putting our clients, young and adult, on redfish!
Typically averaging about 25 inches in length, Florida Keys Redfish are feisty and aggressive when presented a live bait. This makes them an excellent target for both experienced anglers or newcomers alike – and they’re great for the kids!!
Best Time of Year to Catch Redfish in the Lower Keys
Redfish (aka red drum or “reds”) are found in the waters surrounding the lower Keys and Key West in every month of the year.
Redfish are targeted on the backcountry flats in the warmer months of the year, March through August, when you’re likely to see schools of redfish tailing in the shallows in search of crabs and shrimp.
In the cooler months, October through February, when water temperatures drop a bit – redfish are still available but are fished in the slightly deeper water of flats drop-offs, channels and mangrove motes.
